Historical Tours

See the restoration that brought beauty and elegance back to this century-old theater. The Citizens Opera House is among the nation's finest in opulence and quality detailing. It is the only surviving work in Boston by distinguished American theater architect, Thomas Lamb. Our historical and backstage tour is a wonderful education opportunity for adults and older children. The tour encompasses historical and architectural highlights of the building including the grand lobby areas and the majestic auditorium. Learn about how the theater operates today and what it takes to put on a modern-day production!

Be sure to stop by the Citizens Lounge (a.k.a. "The Mirror Room"), located in the back of the lower level of the Citizens Opera House, to relax in a quiet and comfortable space before the show. Simply flash your Citizens debit or credit card to gain pre-show access. Please note: the lounge will be open to all guests pre-show until the performance.
